No, that's not me. |
Welcome to the first newsletter since the release of IPM 10 and the updated website.
In keeping with the changes, here's our newer, fresher-looking newsletter, too.
We don't want our IPM 2007 users to feel left out with all the stuff about IPM
10, so that's our focus for this newsletter. IPM 2007 will still be around as
long as you need it, and we're even doing *one* more release (there might be
another one next year, but don't hold your breath!). Of course there's
a little something about IPM 10 here, too... |
PS - please accept our apologies if you've received a duplicate copy of this
newsletter. We found out (belatedly) we'd had a mailserver error during the
first distriubution.
Are You (and your Data) Ready for IPM 10?
We prefer to be cutting edge, but definitely back from bleeding edge. If you
jumped on Windows 7, traded your SUV for a Prius and change phones as often as
you change shoes, we know you've already got IPM 10 installed and have been
playing with it. However, there's nothing pushing you to change...right now.
When you are ready to move, you need to make your data ready for IPM 10. If you
have any tenant ledgers that don't match your charge/due screen, start working
on them! IPM 10 relies on the tenant ledger, so get 'em right before you switch.
You can override your tenant ledgers, but if you do that, you'll lose a lot of
information. Anything else you've been putting off - trials out of balance,
unposted items, et.c - need to be cleaned up first. We're working hard to make
the transition as easy as possible - with at least one update a week - and hope
you do your part, too.

A Word About System Requirements for IPM 10.....
After decades of touting "backward compatibility" as one
of the best attributes of IPM, we've had to make some choices to become
technologically current. As a result, IPM 10 won't run under Windows 98, or on
PCs without internet access. More to the point, it is ready for Windows 7 (just
by the skin of our teeth) and what ever is coming next. Business moves forward
or closes - just ask the man who drives an Oldsmobile.
IPM 10 will run on a PC with a 1 gigaHertz processor and 1 gigabyte of RAM. That
will even be workable if you've got a dozen tenants. However, if you've got more
that, say, one hundred tenants, you'll want a lot more power than that!
The ideal machine for IPM 10 has quad processors at
about 2.8 gHz, with at least 4 gB of RAM. That will scream through even
several hundred tenants. And that PC will still be under $800, with
pricing dropping constantly.
But wait, there's more. If your database is nearing the 120MB mark, you
should REALLY consider splitting it into multiple databases with one database per checkbook. If you want
faster response, or are over 130MB, you really don't have a choice.
Fortunately, IPM 10 has a tool in its program group to split your database.
Try it, and see a phenomenal improvement in performance!
If you've still got too many tenants in one checkbook or performance is just too
slow, you'll have to wait until our SQL-Server-based Enterprise edition is
released, and that's probably two years away. Until then, IPM 2007 may
remain your best solution. We wish we could be everything to everyone, but
until we figure out how to do that, we'll settle for being the best, easiest
option for managers of up to 500 tenants per checkbook.
IPM 10.0.1.24 Released
If you haven't tried IPM 10 yet, maybe now's the time.
It's free for everyone on maintenance, and available for installation from our
Download page.

We recommend you run IPM 10 and IPM 2007 in parallel for at least a month, and
re-import your 2007 data after every update that affects the Import function.
Updates will still be at least weekly while there's a need. Report bugs to
technical.support and we'll fix 'em in the next update.
The automatic updates make keeping current easy! |

The Future of IPM 2007:
No End In Sight
You've got a large operation, and upgrading to new PCs is not in your budget.
Or you're a small operation, and don't have the time or inclination to change your
monthly processes. Or IPM 2007 does just what you need.
People choose to stay on
IPM 2007 for these and innumerable other reasons - heck, we still use
Office 2000! We don't intend to change, so why should you?
We will continue to support our IPM 2007 customers, and a few stragglers
upgrading from older versions.
In fact, starting January 1, we will be offering
two maintenance plans: one that allows you to upgrade and stay current (the
current plan) with full database support, and another one for 'legacy' users who
are happy to stay with IPM 2007. That plan will be less expensive, but
won't offer as many services, and no (or very few) updates.
Bottom line: Relax, IPM 2007 will still be there for you as long as you have
a PC that'll run it!
(Remember, 64-Bit Windows won't run IPM 2007)
