A Letter From the President
January, 2012
On Tuesday, January 10 we experienced a series of unfortunate events we couldn't take in
stride. Our call volume crashed our server, separating us from all our
remote services (voicemail/phone, email, customer database, connectivity). And while we
trying to recover from that, a virus got through to our two most important PCs.
Including my development PC. And since I was already up to my ears in
other issues, I didn't catch it until both machines were basically doorstops.
We finally manually coded a change to our web site so our users had SOME notice. Then
we got a very old 384Mhz machine with a dreadful 500Mb RAM up as our new "main
PC". And I had JUST gotten a report of a memory leak in IPM 10 under
fairly specialized circumstances - which I knew was a challenge to debug under
ideal circumstances.
And to make this entire situation still more enjoyable, we were expecting a
settlement from our bank regarding an identity theft issue with which we'd been
limping along since November. Of course that was delayed.
So we were broke, blind, deaf, dumb and mute... what a fun week! Now we've
got 1.5 pcs back up and running, and most of our services. By Tuesday Jan
17, we'll kinda look like a company again.
Yours,
William J Bennett
President
